Understanding your experiences is often the first step toward meaningful treatment, especially when considering therapy services such as EMDR therapy. A comprehensive mental health evaluation allows for an exploration of your symptoms, personal history, strengths, and current concerns, helping to develop a clearer understanding of your mental health and guiding treatment recommendations. Whether you're seeking therapy, have questions about a possible diagnosis, or need a diagnostic assessment within my scope of practice, my aim is to provide a thoughtful, collaborative, and individualized evaluation process.
Mental health evaluations are tailored to your unique concerns and may include various components such as a comprehensive clinical interview, a review of your mental health, medical, family, and social history, and a discussion of current symptoms and their impact on daily functioning. Standardized screening measures may also be used when clinically appropriate, leading to diagnostic impressions based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR), as well as personalized treatment recommendations, which may include EMDR therapy as part of our therapy services.
Because every individual is different, some mental health evaluations can be completed in a single session, while others may require multiple appointments to ensure a thorough and accurate assessment. If additional sessions are recommended, we'll discuss the evaluation process together so you know what to expect.
Mental health evaluations and therapy services may be appropriate for concerns including: Anxiety disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), bipolar disorders, depressive disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), personality disorders, adjustment disorders, phobias, autism-related concerns*, and other mental health concerns within my professional scope of practice. Additionally, EMDR therapy can be an effective treatment option for some of these issues.
I believe a diagnosis should never define you—it should provide clarity, guide treatment, and help us better understand your experiences through effective therapy services. My mental health evaluations are collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I consider the whole person, including your strengths, life experiences, relationships, and overall functioning. My goal is to provide a thorough assessment while ensuring you feel heard, respected, and supported throughout the process, including exploring options like EMDR therapy.
* Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): While I can evaluate autism-related traits and explore whether Autism Spectrum Disorder may be a relevant clinical consideration during mental health evaluations or therapy services, I do not provide formal Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnostic evaluations. If you are seeking an official ASD diagnosis for accommodations, disability services, educational planning, or personal confirmation, I recommend obtaining a comprehensive autism evaluation through a provider who specializes in formal diagnostic testing. (Resources coming soon.) If we are working together in therapy or through a mental health evaluation and I believe a formal autism assessment would be beneficial, I will discuss my clinical observations with you and provide an appropriate referral.
Neuropsychological & Psychoeducational Testing: I do not provide neuropsychological or psychoeducational testing. These evaluations involve specialized cognitive and educational assessments that are outside the scope of my practice. However, I do offer comprehensive mental health evaluations and diagnostic services within my professional scope of practice and will gladly refer you to an appropriate specialist if more extensive testing is recommended.
